The Meerbrook Flower Festival was held
between July 6 and 10th this year in St Matthews Church Meerbrook. This
annual event usually attracts many visitors and this year was no exception
The theme this year was "Favourite Hymns". Each display representing
a hymn. The flowers cost over £1100 and it took a dedicated team
many hours to assemble the displays. Throughout the festival refreshments
were available in the village hall. On the evening of the final day
a concert by "Mixed Harmony" was performed in the church.
In all over £2000 was raised for church funds.
02nd July 07
The two day Strawberry
Moon Festival at Tittersworth resevoir was a
victim of the terrible weather. However people who attended really enjoyed
it. There was much to do for kids with a craft marquee where
the kids could participate in all manner of creative work. There was
theatre, demonstrations of rural crafts such as blacksmithing, rope
making, wood turning, basket weaving etc some of which you could have
a go at. Artists were playing all day and into the night on Saturday
with groups from around the country and individual artists in the acoustic
marquee. Shame about the weather, it was actually not as bad as the
forecast and did not seem to bother those that decided brave it. Congratulations
to all those who put such energy into the project. Hopefully the festival
will become an annual event, it certainly deserves to be successful.
16th June 07
The
"Upperhulme Fete" at Field House Upperhulme on June 10th raised over £4500
in aid of Myeloma UK and the Macmillan centre at Macclesfield hospital.
This included a single donation of £3000.
The fete was held in glorious weather with a very good turn out. There was lots to do such as archery, rifle shooting, pony rides, medieval slot machine etc.
Thanks to Lesley and David Roberts for organising the event and the many helpers from around the area.
